Taxes and deadlines

What taxes does an employer pay?

Short answer

Employers pay 7.65% of each employee's wages for Social Security and Medicare, matching what is withheld from the paycheck. They also pay federal unemployment tax (FUTA), usually 0.6% on the first $7,000 per employee after state credits, plus state unemployment insurance. Some states and cities add their own payroll taxes.
